“Wild Haven” – A Celebration of Nature Along Richmond Highway – 7802 Richmond Hwy AlexandriaVA

This stunning new mural, located on the back of the Bank of America building in Hybla Valley, has been named “Wild Haven”. Designed and painted by renowned artist Matt Lively, the mural is a vibrant homage to the natural beauty and wildlife that thrives in the areas surrounding Richmond Highway, including Huntley Meadows Park and the Potomac River.

The mural captures a serene and picturesque scene where nature takes center stage. A majestic red fox stands proudly under the shade of a sprawling tree, gazing across a tranquil wetland. The waters teem with life, from a great blue heron poised at the shoreline to a turtle basking on a rock. Nearby, a raccoon peers from beneath the foliage, while daisies brighten the foreground with their simple charm. Above it all, a hawk soars gracefully through a blue sky dotted with soft clouds, embodying the spirit of freedom and vitality.

Why “Wild Haven”?

The name reflects the mural’s theme of wildlife preservation and the natural sanctuaries found near the Richmond Highway corridor. This area is home to incredible biodiversity, and the mural serves as a reminder of the rich environmental heritage that surrounds us, even in urban settings. It highlights the importance of preserving and celebrating these havens, which provide not only beauty but also balance to our ecosystem.

A Testament to Placemaking

This mural is part of the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation’s (SFDC) ongoing placemaking efforts to enhance the Richmond Highway corridor. By incorporating public art like “Wild Haven”, SFDC aims to create spaces that inspire community pride, encourage connection, and transform the corridor into a vibrant destination.

The partnership with Bank of America was instrumental in bringing this project to life, providing the perfect canvas for this celebration of nature. It’s not just a mural—it’s a statement of what makes this community special and a visual invitation for residents and visitors to explore and appreciate the area’s unique blend of urban and natural environments.

Whether you’re walking by or driving through, take a moment to enjoy “Wild Haven” and reflect on the beauty of the natural world it represents.
