The Penn Daw Community Business Center is located immediately south of North Gateway/Huntington along Richmond Highway and is approximately less than one mile from Huntington Metro Station. The area also connects to North Gateway/Huntington via North Kings Highway, which provides direct access to the southern entrance of Huntington Metro Station (Also on North Kings Highway) and the Capital Beltway I-495.
Combined Properties is redeveloping Penn Daw Plaza, an old commercial strip, as mixed-use development consisting of a multifamily building, townhomes, and ground-level retail. Additionally, Cafritz Interests has acquired a five-acre lot of low-density commercial and is in the planning process for a multifamily building.
Penn Daw Plaza (With the Shelby in the background), formerly a strip mall shopping center, is slated to become a mixed-use development called “South Alex.”
Penn Daw’s proximity to Huntington Metro Station, access to the Capital Beltway I-495, and the concentration of “developable” parcels has generated substantial redevelopment and revitalization interest. In 2014, Insight Property group delivered The Shelby, a 240-unit multifamily building, and recently sold the asset to Passco for $70 million.
