Woodlawn is the southernmost Community Business Center in SFDC’s area coverage along Richmond Highway. Woodlawn serves as a gateway to Fort Belvoir, George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, and the George Washington Parkway, George Mason’s Woodlawn Manor, as well as Jeff Todd Way, which connects Richmond Highway to Telegraph Road. The Fairfax County Parkway, which runs the entire length of Fairfax County to Route 7, connects to Richmond Highway at Fort Belvoir’s primary entrance.
Additionally, a 3.5-mile stretch of Richmond Highway between Telegraph Road and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway has been widened to accommodate increased traffic flow from Fort Belvoir. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.
Fort Belvoir is one of Fairfax County’s largest job centers, with over 40,000 employees, and plans for an additional 15,000 by 2030. The Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (“BRAC”), a Department of Defense consolidation of functions and facilities, shifted thousands of jobs to Fort Belvoir, which now hosts a range of sophisticated and technical commands and operations.
